DTU Researcher Attends the 26th DNV Nordic Maritime Universities Workshop with ESOMOOR Support
Supported by ESOMOOR, Zhilong Wei, a postdoctoral researcher at DTU, attended the 26th DNV Nordic Maritime Universities Workshop in Tromsø, Norway, 29–30 January 2026.
The DNV Nordic Maritime Universities Workshop is a recurring academic event that brings together researchers from Nordic universities in naval architecture, maritime engineering, and maritime transport. It is organized through collaboration between DNV and Nordic universities with established activities in maritime education and research.
As part of Task 5.1 (MoorDyn Extension and Validation), Zhilong presented the current progress on integrating the Syrope model for fiber mooring ropes—particularly polyester ropes—into the open-source mooring dynamics tool MoorDyn. MoorDyn is widely used for the analysis and simulation of mooring systems for floating structures. As a module within OpenFAST, this extension will facilitate the adoption of polyester mooring lines in floating offshore wind by enabling industry-relevant modeling of ropes that offer lower weight, easier installation, reduced mooring footprint, and potentially lower carbon emissions.
We aim to contribute to the community by providing a free, open-source tool that is accessible to everyone and supports the use of polyester ropes in mooring system design and analysis.
